Overview

Selecting and adding a custom style to phpBB was quite a simple process and can quickly change the look and feel of your forum.


Instructions 

Download the style of your choice from the styles download page, unpack the zipfile and then upload it to the webserver, place the style files in their own directory in the /templates/ folder inside the phpBB2 directory.

Go to the administration control panel and under "styles admin", click on the link "add" There you will find a list of styles that are present in the templates/ directory but that haven't been installed to your forum. behind every style, you see an "install" link. click on that link to install the style. If you want to you can set it as the default style in general admin configuration

Installing phpBB

Overview

Installing phpBB was very simple. All the instructions were on the site and very easy to follow.

Hosting I am using 1and1.co.uk which offers me SQL servers and PHP support and a hosting account. I had initially decided to keep my blog in a seperate folder so I could link through from my site to my blog.


Instructions 

SQL Database Create an SQL database and record the connection info:

  • Database Name
  • Hostname
  • Username
  • Password

phpBB Files Download the phpBB files from phpbb.org unzip them onto the PC, then used filezilla to FTP the files to the server.

Configuration Point a web browser at http://www.mysite.tld/phpBB2 then get access to the config screen and add in the relevant information, delete the requested files and log in Done!
